About Uptown Family Dental

Your neighbourhood dentist since 1971

Uptown Family Dental was set up by Dr. Bill Sherry in 1971, and Dr. Hedy Lam took over in 2011. Dr. Lam carries over the practice’s philosophy of transparency with all patients. Her focus is to involve patients in their own treatment by making their own informed decisions.

Our team is proud to serve clients of all ages (including Dr. Sherry himself) from all over the Lower Mainland, and throughout BC. We’ll guide you throughout the process so you can feel secure and comfortable with the dental treatment you receive. You’ll leave knowing a lot more about your oral health.

Meet the team

Dr. Hedy Lam

Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Dental Medicine, University of British Columbia

Growing up in Richmond, Dr. Lam enjoyed playing basketball in high school. She also spent a summer playing competitively in a New Westminster club and ended up representing her team in Japan. Outside of basketball, she always dreamed of becoming a dentist. While studying at UBC, she received several service, scholastic and faculty awards.

Dr. Lam then worked in Camrose, Alberta before coming across an opportunity to join Uptown Family Dental as an associate in 2010. She fell in love with the history and charm of the city all over again and within a year, she took over as owner of the practice. She is very glad to lay down her roots in this community.

Our staff

Laura and Angel are the first faces you’ll see when you walk in. They will help you with any questions about scheduling, billing and insurance. Laura loves to talk about her hiking and skiing adventures, and Angel her pets — a cat and the cutest pit bull.

MJ and Kendra are our dental hygienists. MJ will often be the person cleaning your teeth— ask her about her two rescue dogs and her travels. If you come in on Fridays, Kendra will be cleaning your teeth. She will happily share stories about her travels all over the world.

Nancy is our Certified Dental Assistant, and you’ll see her in the room assisting Dr. Lam. You’ll often hear both of them complaining about the Canucks.
